NASA has launched the mission of Artemis 2 with Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. This Artemis 2 mission will rolled out from the launching pad 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in the month of February 2026. The US government has worked with NASA going upon the moon and this mission is released as the long term presence on the lunar surface. Artemis 2 Launch Date
The Artemis 2 has been established for the long term presence on the lunar surface which also includes new moon mission rockets, spacecraft and technologies etc. The Artemis I test flights were successful and after three years the Artemis II will be released. The Artemis II mission marked the first time traveling beyond low earth orbit in more than 50 years and the last mission will be held in Apollo 17 in 1972.
The Artemis 2 mission’s test flight will send four astronauts and travel approximately 600,000 miles in around 10 days. This mission is released for travelling upon the lunar surface and testing the critical spacecraft systems. The primary aim of the Artemis 2 mission is landing on the moon’s south pole which is never explored by humans. Artemis 2 testing is fully successful and the mission on the moon will be released soon.
Through the Artemis 2, the astronauts have not been released for landing on the moon but it is designed to demonstrate the SLS, rocket systems, Orion Crew capsule on the moon. This mission will be released on the date of 6th February 2026 and these test Artemis 2 missions will be released to test life support, communications, operating system and navigation systems. Crew Details
In the Artemis 2 mission, there are some selected members; Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, mission specialist Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansan. Reid Wiseman is the commander of the Artemis II mission and formal chief Astronaut of NASA as well as spending the 165 days in space on the International Space Station. Victor Glover is the mission pilot, NASA astronaut and lives on the ISS for the long duration assignment as well as spent six months as part of Crew 1 mission.
Christina Koch is the mission specialist because she made a record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman at 328 days. Jeremy Hansan is another Artemis 2 mission specialist and non-US astronaut to fly on the moon, a colonel as well as an CF-18 fighter pilot.
