Canberra (Agencies): Australia’s Defense Ministry has finalized an agreement to purchase 20 new C-130J Hercules aircraft from the United States, in a deal valued at $9.8 billion. The first aircraft is expected to be delivered in late 2027, with subsequent deliveries following soon after.

The acquisition is aimed at replacing and expanding the current fleet of 12 Hercules aircraft currently in service with the Australian military. These C-130J Hercules aircraft are essential for a wide range of operations, including transporting personnel, equipment, and humanitarian supplies. They also play a crucial role in search and rescue missions, disaster relief efforts, and medical evacuation operations.

Designed and manufactured by US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin, the C-130J Hercules is known for its versatility and reliability, making it a preferred choice for many countries’ defense forces around the world. With this purchase, Australia is reinforcing its commitment to bolstering its military capabilities and enhancing its capacity to respond effectively to various security and humanitarian challenges.
