• Calls for Impartial Investigation and Urges India, Pakistan to De-escalate Tensions

Beijing, China (Agencies): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for an impartial investigation into the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir while urging India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and work toward de-escalating tensions in the region. Wang made these remarks during a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Sunday.

During the conversation, Dar briefed Wang on the latest developments following the deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, mostly travelers, and left dozens injured. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism and emphasized the need for maturity in managing the situation.

For his part, Wang affirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and acknowledged Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns as an “ironclad friend and all-weather strategic partner.” He stressed that conflict does not serve the interests of either India or Pakistan, nor does it contribute to regional peace and stability. Wang urged both nations to move toward each other and engage in constructive dialogue.

The attack has further strained relations between India and Pakistan, prompting India to order the immediate departure of some staff members at Pakistan’s diplomatic mission and Pakistani visitors in India. In response, Pakistan has announced the suspension of participation in bilateral treaties, including those concerning the line of control in disputed areas.

China’s call for restraint comes as tensions in the region remain high, with both countries taking measures that could escalate the situation further. Beijing’s appeal for an impartial investigation reflects its ongoing efforts to promote stability and cooperation in South Asia
