New Delhi/Islamabad (Agencies): In a dramatic shake-up within India’s security establishment, Lt Gen DS Rana, Director General of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), has been abruptly removed from his post and reassigned to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. His removal follows the leak of a classified document exposing a false-flag operation in Pahalgam, a tourist resort in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The leaked document, which surfaced on the social media platform, allegedly revealed RAW’s covert plan to stage an attack in Pahalgam on April 22, resulting in the deaths of 26 tourists. The operation was reportedly designed to malign Pakistan and justify military aggression, but the plan unraveled when the classified papers were leaked, causing public humiliation for RAW and the Narendra Modi government.
Sources indicate that the document was under Lt Gen Rana’s personal safekeeping, and an internal investigation pointed to his office as the source of the leak. His transfer to Kala Pani, a historically punitive location, is widely seen as a disciplinary action.

This removal is part of a broader purge within India’s security apparatus. Lt-Gen MV Sachinder Kumar, the Northern Commander, was also dismissed following the Pahalgam debacle, along with Indian Air Force Deputy Air Marshal Sujeet Pushpakar Dharkar. Defence analysts argue that these removals will exert psychological pressure on India’s military leadership and personnel, further destabilizing the country’s security framework.
Brig (retd) Mahmood Shah, former law and order secretary for Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), stated that the Modi government is now trapped in a conspiracy of its own making, facing ridicule even within India. Dr Ejaz Khan, former chairman of the International Relations Department at the University of Peshawar, described the incident as a serious crime that has tarnished India’s global image, exposing its alleged false-flag operations against its own citizens.
As the fallout continues, India’s intelligence and military leadership face mounting scrutiny, with analysts predicting further instability in the wake of these revelations.
