Amman (Agencies): Jordan has announced its readiness to supply electricity to Syria as the war-torn country embarks on reconstruction following the fall of the Assad regime, Anadolu Agency reported.

Jordanian Energy Minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh stated that Jordan is developing infrastructure to transmit power to Syria’s Nasib border crossing, responding to a request from Damascus. While the electrical linkage is complete on Jordan’s side, Al-Kharabsheh noted that Syria’s preparedness to receive electricity will determine when supply begins.

Jordan and Syria have shared a 400-kilovolt transmission line since 2001, but it has been out of service since 2012 due to technical issues arising during the conflict.

This initiative aligns with efforts by Syria’s new leadership, under Ahmed al-Sharaa, to rebuild critical infrastructure. The reconstruction drive follows the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government after anti-regime forces seized control of Damascus on December 8. Assad, who led Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters swiftly captured major cities, ending the Baath Party’s six-decade rule.
