Los Angeles (Agencies): Police in Los Angeles initiated mass arrests late Tuesday after an emergency curfew was imposed in downtown LA amid ongoing protests against immigration enforcement actions. The curfew, announced by Mayor Karen Bass, will remain in effect until 6 a.m. local time and could be extended for several days.

The protests, which began last week, have spread to major cities across the U.S., including New York, Chicago, Austin, and Washington, D.C., with more demonstrations planned throughout the week.

In response to escalating unrest, President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of National Guard troops across the state ahead of anticipated protests. Meanwhile, the number of arrests in Los Angeles continues to rise, with nearly 200 protesters detained on Tuesday alone, according to city officials. The mayor also confirmed that 23 businesses were looted during four days of demonstrations.

Additionally, 700 U.S. Marines have been placed on standby outside Los Angeles to protect federal personnel and property. A federal judge denied California’s request to block the Trump administration’s use of Marines and National Guard troops for law enforcement, setting a hearing for Thursday.

The protests stem from immigration raids conducted at farms and factories in California and Nebraska, sparking widespread outrage and calls for policy reform.
