Peshawar (Khyber Mail): The second edition of the DOSTI Peshawar Women Literature Festival (DPWLF) was inaugurated at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWUP), Peshawar, celebrating the literary, artistic, and cultural contributions of women from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The event, organized by the Dosti Welfare Organization in collaboration with SBBWUP, the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), and other partners, highlighted the role of women in shaping Pakistan’s literary and cultural landscape.
The inauguration featured opening remarks from Dr. Hamida Bibi, the chief organizer and Head of History and Pakistan Studies at SBBWUP. She emphasized the university’s dedication to amplifying women’s voices in literature and leadership.
The festival included a tribute to prominent women achievers such as Ms. Haleema, Ms. Fouzia Taj, Ms. Naheed Afridi, and others for their contributions across various domains. Key events included a panel discussion titled “Khawateen Adab aur Agahi: Ek Naye Door ka Aghaz” with notable speakers Dr. Bismena, Ms. Shaheen Amin, and Ms. Shamshad Nazli. Additionally, poet Ms. Bushra Farrukh launched her latest book, and cultural exhibits showcased the region’s diversity.
Prominent speakers at the event included Rakhsanda Naz, Ombudsperson for KP, who highlighted legal rights and protections for women, and Mohammad Rafique Khan Mohmand, Director of Social Welfare, KP, who commended women from remote regions pursuing education and service.
Chief Guest Tashfeen Haider, Director General of the Culture and Tourism Authority, lauded the role of women in societal development and thanked the organizing team, including Dr. Hamida Bibi and others, for their efforts in orchestrating the event.
The festival concluded with a shield distribution ceremony and a vote of thanks by Dr. Hamida Bibi. The DOSTI Peshawar Women Literature Festival continues to serve as an inspiring platform, fostering inclusivity and empowering women in Pakistan’s literary and cultural spheres.
