Karachi (Agencies): The 6th death anniversary of Roohi Bano, a celebrated name in Pakistan’s television and film industry, was observed on Saturday January 25th 2025. Known for her remarkable acting prowess, she remains an enduring icon in the hearts of her fans and the entertainment fraternity.
Born on August 10, 1951, in Karachi, Roohi Bano was the daughter of legendary tabla maestro Allah Rakha Khan and half-sister to world-renowned percussionist Ustad Zakir Hussain. Despite earning a Master’s degree in Psychology from Government College University, Lahore, she chose to pursue her passion for acting, carving a niche for herself during the golden era of Pakistani television.
Roohi Bano’s unforgettable performances in classic dramas such as Kiran Kahani, Zard Gulab, and Darwaza earned her critical acclaim and a slew of prestigious awards. These included the Pride of Performance award in 1981, the Nigar Award, the Graduate Award, and the Lux Lifetime Achievement Award.
While her professional life was filled with accolades, her personal life was marked by tragedy. The brutal murder of her only son in 2005 left her deeply traumatized, and she was later diagnosed with schizophrenia. Despite these struggles, she continued to inspire through her resilience.
Roohi Bano passed away on January 25, 2019, in Istanbul, Turkey, after battling renal failure. Her death marked the end of an era, but her legacy continues to live on.
