PESHAWAR: A two-day 6th International Conference on “Sustainability in Process Industry (SPI-2022)” in joint collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, and Department of Chemical Engineering, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of Engineering Science and Technology, Swabi was held at GIKI Swabi from 19th to 20th October 2022.

Speakers at the conference stressed strengthening academia-industry linkages to enhance the industrial sector with the help of cutting-edge academic research; finding sustainable solutions for the problems related to energy, water, climate change, and food processing, and creating better opportunities and environment for industries, especially in plastic recycling. They said the industrial world has adopted essential technological practices in connection with sustainable industrial processes while it was equally important for the developing countries to adopt practical policies for better management of global warming issues that they face such as plastic recycling and climate change.

Mr. Jehangir Piracha, CEO Engro Polymer, and Chemicals (Pvt) Ltd. was the Guest of Honor at the opening ceremony while Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar and Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid (SI), Rector GIKI welcomed the participants at the opening session to the conference. Prof. Dr. Javed Rabbani Khan, Chairman Department of Chemical Engineering, GIKI, and Prof. Dr. Muddasar Habib, Chairman Department of Chemical Engineering, UET Peshawar were the chief guests of the closing ceremony.

Keynote speakers and researchers from USA, China, Turkey, Brazil, and Pakistan presented novel engineering and scientific contributions. Speakers from the University of Karachi, University of Sindh, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, COMSATS University, University of Abbottabad, University of Science and Technology Swat, National University of Science and Technology Islamabad, University of Peshawar, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, and Kahuta Research laboratories also participated in plenary and technical sessions
