Beijing (Khyber Mail): The Ambassador of Pakistan to Beijing, Khalil Hashmi, participated in the inauguration ceremony of an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of the slogan “Love Our China, Repair the Great Wall.” The event took place at the Badaling section of the Great Wall near Beijing.
Ambassador Hashmi highlighted the Great Wall’s symbolic significance in China’s cultural heritage, representing resilience and strength. He recalled Pakistan’s contribution to the restoration of a portion of the Great Wall in 1989, symbolizing the ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China.
Drawing parallels between the Great Wall and Pakistan’s ancient city of Taxila, a seat of Buddhism and the Indus Valley Civilization, Ambassador Hashmi emphasized the shared historical and cultural ties between the two nations. He underscored the unique and time-tested friendship between Pakistan and China, based on mutual respect, trust, and a desire for mutual growth.
He likened the friendship between Pakistan and China to the Great Wall—strong, unbreakable, stable, and enduring. He reaffirmed the commitment to expanding collaboration in diverse fields, from trade and infrastructure to cultural exchange.
The event was attended by Chinese scholars and leaders, including Bian Jinping, a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). They discussed the Great Wall’s role as a symbol of international resilience and creativity and appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to its preservation.
