Peshawar, Pakistan (Agencies): Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Mehsud, has announced the launch of the ‘Beggars Free Peshawar’ campaign within a week, aiming to cleanse the provincial metropolis of professional vagrants. This initiative follows the successful ‘Drug-Free Peshawar’ campaign.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Commissioner Mehsud outlined the campaign’s objectives, which include providing skill training to arrested beggars with the support of the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) to help them become useful citizens. Separate centers have been reserved for training female beggars, and underage alms seekers will be provided with free education facilities in designated buildings.

The detained beggars will receive free accommodation and meals during their training period. A building will be acquired on a rental basis with the support of the Social Welfare Department to house the beggars in separate sections, focusing on skill training.

Commissioner Mehsud also disclosed that action would be taken against the mafia involved in engaging people in the business of beggary. These mafia members will be arrested and brought to justice, with arrangements made for taking action against them.
