Peshawar (Khyber Mail): In a strategic meeting chaired by Special Secretary Education, Mr. Qaisar Alam, an ambitious plan to create a unique school design combining historical and modern elements was discussed. This meeting saw the participation of key stakeholders including Chairperson of Alumni Association, Mr. Asif Qureshi (Chairman e-Hujra), Chief Engineer (C&W), Mr. Jamshed Ali Khan, Planning Officer-III, Dr. Ruksana Farooq, and representatives from M/S Allied Engineering Consultants, along with the DC Bannu.
The new school design will be inspired by Namak Pura School in Peshawar with features resembling the Chemistry Department building of Islamia College, Peshawar. The lawn will reflect the beauty of Mini Shalimar Garden, Lahore, and white marble will be used to enhance the aesthetic appeal.
Plans include the incorporation of AI-enabled labs, a double basement, parking, a library, and other modern facilities. The goal is to balance historical heritage with modern architectural needs, as emphasized by Dr. Ruksana Farooq and Mr. Asif Qureshi.
The map design timeline has been reduced to 16 days upon the request of the Chairman of Alumni Association. The contractor, M/S Mumtaz and Brothers, has been awarded the construction contract, while M/S Allied Engineering is responsible for the project design. Cost estimates for 2024/2025 will be provided by the Alumni Association.
The possibility of retendering was discussed but was deemed impractical due to time constraints. Instead, the C&W Department will make the final decisions regarding the contractor. A team will visit Bannu to oversee progress and ensure alignment with the plans.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to meet the revised design deadline and achieve a harmonious blend of historical and modern architectural elements.
The action items include the completion of the map within 16 days, revisiting the contractor’s terms, updating cost estimates, planning a visit to Bannu for monitoring, and ensuring alignment with the Alumni Association for future requirements.
The Education Department is poised to transform the school into a landmark that pays homage to historical heritage while embracing modernity, reflecting the innovative spirit of the region.
