Tarbela (Dr. Pervaiz Awan): Shafiqat-ur-Rehman, Regional Director of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Islamabad, underscored the significance of distance education during a tutor briefing meeting for the Spring Semester 2024 at Government Boys High School Ghazi Hamlet. He highlighted that distance education is a well-established concept globally, successfully implemented in various countries for decades.
Rehman emphasized that the core philosophy of distance education is to provide educational opportunities to individuals who, due to economic or social issues, cannot pursue education through conventional systems. AIOU addresses this gap by bringing the light of knowledge to distant areas and promoting education.
He noted that many people cannot attend college or university due to financial constraints or the need to prioritize employment or business. For such individuals, AIOU serves as an excellent educational resource. Rehman stressed that there is no shortage of talent among students, but it needs to be discovered and nurtured. By doing so, Pakistan will advance towards development and continue to progress through both conventional and non-conventional means of education.
The Regional Director of Abbottabad provided a briefing on various program admissions at AIOU to tutors, students, and local dignitaries. The ceremony was attended by former SDEO Shakir Qureshi, Chairman VC Myandheri Shah Ali Mardan, former ASDEO Rizwan Khan, ASDEO Ghazi Talal Waheed Khan, SS Sereikot Rafi Ullah, headmasters and principals, teachers, and students.
