Lahore (Khyber Mail): Admiral Yastur-ul-Haq Malik, a distinguished former Chief of Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy, passed away on December 4, 2024, in Lahore. He was 92 years old.

Born on December 24, 1931, in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Admiral Malik had a notable military career. He was commissioned into the Pakistan Navy in 1954 and actively participated in both the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. Throughout his service, he held various significant positions including Vice-Chief of Naval Staff, Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, and Chairman of the National Shipping Corporation.

Admiral Malik served as the Chief of Naval Staff from 1988 to 1991. His exemplary service earned him numerous awards, including the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), and Sitara-e-Basalat.

Post-retirement, he continued to contribute to the defense and security sectors in various capacities. His legacy in the Pakistan Navy and his commitment to the country’s defense are widely recognized and respected.

Leaders from across the country, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, have expressed their condolences and praised Admiral Malik’s dedication and service to the nation.
