Quetta (Agencies): The Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Balochistan, under the leadership of Director Imran Mehmood, has intensified its crackdown on anti-state propaganda proliferating across social media platforms.
A specialized team equipped with advanced monitoring technologies has been tasked with identifying suspicious activities on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. Over the past three months, the team has flagged 924 social media accounts for allegedly disseminating anti-state content.
The breakdown of reported accounts includes 487 on Facebook, 190 on TikTok, 147 on Twitter, 88 on Instagram, and 12 on other platforms. Of these, 312 accounts have already been blocked by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), while 607 others are under review for action.
In addition to targeting individual accounts, the FIA Cybercrime Wing has identified 28 social media applications that it believes have significant potential for anonymous misuse by anti-state actors.
Fourteen formal inquiries have been registered, and investigations into the activities of identified individuals and groups are ongoing.
Director Imran Mehmood, who assumed his role three months ago, emphasized the importance of these operations in safeguarding national integrity. “The misuse of social media to spread anti-state propaganda poses a serious threat to our nation’s security. We are committed to identifying and neutralizing such activities with the utmost vigilance,” he stated.
The crackdown represents a significant step in countering the misuse of digital platforms for activities deemed detrimental to state interests, highlighting the FIA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring cybersecurity in Pakistan.
