Peshawar (Khyber Mail): On Wednesday, key officials from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Syed Fakhar Jihan, Advisor for Finance Muzammil Aslam, and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Communication and Works Sohail Afridi, jointly visited the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar. The visit focused on reviewing the ongoing construction work at the stadium.
Senior government representatives, including Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Muhammad Zia ul Haq, Secretary of Communications and Works Dr. Muhammad Israr, Additional Secretary of Sports Pir Abdullah Shah, Director General of Sports Abdul Nasir Khan, and other senior officials, accompanied the ministers during the visit. Representatives from the Department of Communication and Works (C&W), consultants for the construction project, and contractors were also present.
The officials were briefed by the Executive Engineer from C&W on the remaining work in the final phase of the stadium’s construction. Details on the completed work and the progress toward finalizing the project were shared.
Minister Fakhar Jihan emphasized that the construction work is nearing completion and instructed that to ensure timely handover, work should continue in three shifts, with daily progress reviews. He highlighted the importance of completing the stadium on time for the upcoming PSL matches, enabling the people of the province to witness international cricket.
Advisor Muzammil Aslam assured that there would be no issues from the government’s side in ensuring the swift completion and handover of the project. He noted that the stadium would meet high standards and accommodate a larger number of spectators, allowing local residents to watch their national players, with nearly half of the national cricket team hailing from the province.
Special Assistant Sohail Afridi also stressed the need for expediting the necessary steps to ensure timely completion and handover of the project, avoiding any further delays.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to providing a world-class cricketing venue for the province, with Arbab Niaz Stadium set to become a significant hub for national and international cricket matches.
