Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The India Study Centre (ISC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) organized an engaging session for interns from the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) on the Kashmir issue. The group, led by KIIR Chairman Altaf Hussain Wani, comprised students from leading universities in Islamabad. The session was part of ISSI’s initiative to involve youth in critical national issues and foreign policy discussions.

Dr. Khurram Abbas, Director ISC, opened the session with remarks on the importance of academic discourse on Kashmir, emphasizing alignment with Pakistan’s stance, rooted in UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions advocating the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General ISSI, delivered a comprehensive address on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He highlighted its legal, human rights, and peace and security dimensions, criticizing India’s actions, including the imposition of the Hindutva ideology, which he described as a major structural barrier to resolving the dispute and advancing Pakistan-India relations.

Ambassador Mahmood urged the youth to remain steadfast in their belief in the justice of the Kashmir cause. He encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the historical and factual context of the dispute, counter misinformation campaigns, and develop skills to advocate Pakistan’s stance effectively. He also emphasized the importance of narrative-building and proactive diplomacy supported by a unified national approach.

The interactive session featured a dynamic Q&A segment, allowing interns to explore key issues further. The event concluded with remarks by KIIR Chairman Altaf Hussain Wani, who provided additional insights into the challenges and opportunities for resolving the Kashmir dispute.

The initiative reflects ISSI’s commitment to fostering informed dialogue and empowering the next generation to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s foreign policy and national interests.
