Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) to promote policy-oriented research and dialogue and upscale global awareness of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute for a just and lasting solution.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Altaf Hussain Wani, Chairman of KIIR, briefed the ISSI delegation, led by Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General of ISSI, about KIIR’s structure and its multi-faceted functions. Over the past 30 years, KIIR has produced reports and research articles and engaged with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHRC). It has also built relationships with international NGOs, UN mechanisms, national and international think tanks, and global media outlets.

Mr. Wani emphasized KIIR’s focus on advocating for conflict resolution through strategic dialogues, human rights advocacy in Geneva, and an extensive outreach and internship program for future Kashmiri leaders.

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration and noted the need to further build on mutual efforts. He stressed the critical importance of evaluating developments in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), documenting human rights violations, and strengthening advocacy efforts. He underscored that the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains a high priority for Pakistan’s foreign policy, emphasizing the inalienable right to self-determination.

As part of their future initiatives, ISSI and KIIR plan to organize joint activities to scale up advocacy efforts, engaging universities and civil society organizations to enhance awareness of this national cause.
