Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The fourth edition of the Islamabad Conclave, organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), kicked off today with a focus on “Pakistan and the Evolving Global Order.” Former Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani was the chief guest at the inaugural session.

DG ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mahmood highlighted ISSI’s role as a premier think-tank dedicated to research and policy advocacy on foreign policy and global issues. He discussed the trend towards multipolarity, the high incidence of wars and conflicts, climate change, and the quest for a just world order. He emphasized Pakistan’s stance on cooperation, UN-centered multilateralism, and reforming multilateral institutions.

Chief Guest Jalil Abbas Jilani praised ISSI for its role in policy dialogue and research. He outlined challenges such as major-power contestation, climate crisis, and the genocide in Gaza. Jilani emphasized Pakistan’s strategic relevance, nuclear capability, and its upcoming UN Security Council membership. He stressed the need for comprehensive, human-centered security, managing geopolitics, and pivoting towards geo-economics with proactive diplomacy.

The session concluded with Ambassador Khalid Mahmood presenting a memento to Ambassador Jilani. The two-day conclave features discussions, analyses, and policy recommendations on Pakistan’s geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges.
