Narowal (Khyber Mail): The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi, inaugurated a solar-powered irrigation system project in Tehsil Shakar Garh, District Narowal, on Wednesday. The initiative, managed by Rural Aid Pakistan, aims to enhance agricultural productivity and empower rural communities through sustainable development.

Funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program, the project received financial assistance of $65,617. The funds were used to install seven solar-powered irrigation pumps, providing efficient and sustainable irrigation solutions to the region’s farmers.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by NGO board members, local government officials, community leaders, and farmers. Rural Aid Pakistan, a non-governmental organization with over 30 years of experience, has implemented numerous initiatives to support farmers and combat poverty in rural areas.

Ambassador Akamatsu congratulated the NGO on successfully completing the project and expressed hope that it would boost agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and contribute to the local economy. “The Government of Japan is committed to supporting the people of Pakistan in improving their living standards. This project exemplifies our strong relationship and mutual cooperation,” he stated.

The solar-powered irrigation system is expected to increase agricultural yields, enhance the efficiency of farming practices, and provide a sustainable solution for the water needs of the local farming community. This initiative reflects Japan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Pakistan while addressing grassroots development challenges.
