Islamabad (Khyber Mail): The Human Development Foundation (HDF) conducted a workshop titled “Harmful Effects of Tobacco and Nicotine” at a local hotel in Islamabad, bringing together 45 journalists from print, digital, and broadcast media. The event, supported by key campaign partner organizations, emphasized a collective effort to curb tobacco use in Pakistan.

A central feature of the workshop was the launch of HDF’s report on Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDs), which highlights the rising prevalence of e-cigarettes and similar products among Pakistani youth. The report examines targeted marketing strategies, regulatory gaps, and the potential health risks posed by emerging nicotine products. HDF experts presented key findings and policy recommendations, aiming to equip journalists with credible data for responsible reporting.

Speakers at the event stressed the importance of strengthening tobacco control policies, highlighting the adverse health and economic impacts of nicotine consumption. Journalists were encouraged to actively shape public discourse and hold policymakers accountable through accurate and informed reporting.

As part of its ongoing public health advocacy, HDF continues to push for stronger regulations, greater awareness, and healthier futures for vulnerable communities. The workshop served as a call to action for media professionals to lead the fight against rising nicotine use among youth in Pakistan.
