Islamabad (Agencies): Pakistan and Djibouti have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Political Consultations, marking a significant milestone in their diplomatic relations. The inaugural session under the MoU highlighted the growing cooperation between the two nations across political, economic, and defense spheres.

The MoU was signed by Additional Foreign Secretary (Africa Division) Hamid Asghar Khan and Djibouti’s Permanent Secretary General (Foreign Secretary) Mahmoud Ali Hassan. Both sides hailed the agreement as a historic step toward establishing a comprehensive and lasting partnership, with a particular focus on trade and investment.

During the consultations, the delegations reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and discussed ways to deepen engagement at all levels. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, with a focus on developments in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.

The relationship between Pakistan and Djibouti has been strengthening since Pakistan established a resident diplomatic mission in Djibouti in May 2022. The two sides expressed satisfaction with their excellent multilateral cooperation and committed to enhancing ties further.

The next session of the Bilateral Political Consultations is scheduled to take place in Islamabad early next year. Additionally, a visit by Djibouti’s Foreign Minister and the establishment of a Joint Business Council (JBC) are planned for the first half of 2025, signaling a deeper commitment to advancing mutual interests.
