Karachi (Agencies): The passing out parade for the 61st Batch of the Pakistan Marine Academy was held on Wednesday marking the graduation of 117 cadets in Nautical and Marine Engineering. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

The ceremony saw attendance from numerous armed forces and civil dignitaries, alongside the families of the graduating cadets. Commodore Rizwan Ali Munnawar, Commandant PMA, congratulated the cadets and appreciated their efforts over two years of professional training. He encouraged them to continue their hard work and stay updated with modern trends in the shipping industry.

Awards were distributed to the high achievers, including:

  • Commandant’s Medal: Cadet Wassam ul Haque
  • PNSC Dagger: Cadet Ali Zaman
  • Chief of Naval Staff Silver Medal: Cadet Lt. Muhammad Talha Khan
  • Minister of Ports & Shipping Medal: Bilal Ahmed
  • President’s Gold Medal: Cadet Ehtisham Ali
  • GRG Shield and Cash Award of Rs. 100,000: Bilal Ahmed (Best Overall Cadet)
  • GRG Medal and Cash Award of Rs. 50,000: Muhammad Jabran (Second-Best Overall Cadet)
  • SSMA Arabia Cash Awards: Various cadets received cash awards for their achievements.

In his speech, the Chief Guest praised the Pakistan Marine Academy for its training programs and contributions to the maritime sector. He highlighted the academy’s efforts to upgrade into the “Maritime University of Pakistan” and its potential to become a prestigious maritime research and development institute. Qaiser Sheikh also announced an additional salary for the PMA staff and a full-fee scholarship for a needy cadet under his patronage.

The ceremony concluded with a smartly conducted march past by the cadets, which was highly appreciated by the guests.
