Bannu (Khyber Mail) — On Monday 19 May, the residents of Bannu Gul staged district-wide peaceful protests, strikes, and demonstrations today, demanding the safe recovery of Teacher Farman Ali Shah and calling for lasting peace in the region. The protest, marked by a complete shutter-down strike, was a historic display of unity and non-violent resistance.

Demonstrators urged authorities to act swiftly in securing the safe return of Farman Ali Shah while emphasizing the need for peace and stability in Bannu. Community members expressed hope that this would be the last protest of its kind, as they aspire for a future free from unrest.

During a sit-in, prominent national leaders from Bannu, including Haji Baz Muhammad Khan, Professor Ibrahim Khan, and Dr. Pir Sahib Zaman Shah, addressed the crowd, stressing the urgent need for justice, peace, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

However, the protest was marred by an internet shutdown, which disrupted students’ preparations for board examinations, further deepening local grievances. Protesters urged the government to reconsider such measures, highlighting their adverse impact on education and daily life.

Despite the challenges, the demonstration remained entirely peaceful, showcasing the determined spirit of Bannu’s residents. Organizers reaffirmed their commitment to non-violence while standing firm on their demands.

The protest concluded with a strong call for unity and justice, as Bannu’s residents continue their struggle for peace and the safe recovery of Farman Ali Shah.
