Peshawar (Khyber Mail): The Peshawar Residencia Residents’ Welfare Association (PERRWA) has unanimously rejected the revised rates announced by the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF) for the Peshawar Residencia project. In a meeting held at Peshawar University, presided over by Prof. (R) Naseer Khan Khattak, PERRWA members demanded the refund of down payments along with compensation.

During the meeting, General Secretary Mr. Wajid Hussain Shah briefed attendees on the breach of previous agreements signed with allottees in 2020 by PHAF Islamabad. The PHAF recently issued revised letters to allottees, indicating nearly a 100% increase in the cost of grey structure homes. PERRWA members expressed their dissatisfaction with the revised rates, citing a lack of progress and unresolved land issues. They highlighted that a writ petition had already been submitted to the Peshawar High Court against PHA-KP and PHAF Islamabad for a four-year delay in the project.

The court had previously directed PHAF to address the unjustified delays and failure to complete the project within the stipulated time. In response to strong member requests, the association decided to submit a contempt of court motion against PHAF for breaching the agreement and harassing members by illegally adjusting previous installments into revised down payments without consent. A 10% deduction is being implemented even if a member decides to withdraw their down payments.

PERRWA also resolved to hold a meeting with local MPs and Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Mr. Riaz Hussain Pirzada, to halt PHAF’s alleged illegal activities and inquire why the project was launched without securing the necessary land and prerequisites. The association emphasized that, due to PHAF’s failure, many members are no longer interested in the project. They plan to request the court to decide the case justly, ensuring compensation for allottees and the refund of down payments.

Prof. Khattak thanked the participants for their attendance and urged them to inform all allottees about the project’s pros and cons to resolve the issues in the best interest of all stakeholders.
