Karachi (Agencies): The Sindh Livestock Department has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to combat Foot-and-Mouth Diseases (FMD) and promote the development of the leather, dairy, and meat sectors with support from the European Union.
The launching ceremony featured key attendees including Minister for Education Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani, Mario Ronconi of the European Commission, and Robert Skidmore of ITC, along with other stakeholders.
Syed Sardar Ali Shah highlighted the collaborative efforts under the Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP) project, aiming to introduce skill development courses in livestock farming to boost rural development and economic stability. He stressed the importance of preserving high-quality livestock breeds and supporting small farmers through training and modernizing practices.
Provincial Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani described this initiative as the beginning of a revolutionary journey to advance the livestock sector, improve employment opportunities, and contribute to national prosperity. He thanked the European Union for its support and emphasized cooperation and innovation as keys to a brighter future.
Secretary Livestock Dr. Kazim Jatoi noted the department’s progress in producing vaccines locally and highlighted ongoing discussions with institutions in Turkey and Russia. Mario Ronconi and Robert Skidmore underscored the importance of effective implementation and enhancing the capacities of small and medium-sized enterprises in Sindh and Balochistan.
