Peshawar (Khyber Mail): Abdul Karim Tordher, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Industries, visited the Peshawar Economic Zone in Hayatabad on Thursday to address the issues faced by industries in the region. During his visit, he chaired a meeting with the Industrial Association of Peshawar to discuss challenges and explore solutions.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Adil Salahuddin, Officiating CEO of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development & Management Company (KPEZDMC), Naeem Khan, Director General of the Peshawar Development Authority, Assistant Commissioner of Peshawar Haseena Khan, Ayub Zakori, President of the Peshawar Industrialists Association, and prominent industrialists and businessmen from Peshawar.

During the meeting, the Special Assistant was briefed on various challenges, including transportation bottlenecks, energy-related issues, and alleged illegal fee collection from industries. Abdul Karim directed the Peshawar Development Authority and district administration to resolve the transportation issues within 10 days by ensuring secure and uninterrupted routes for goods movement.

He also assured industrialists that the government would investigate allegations of illegal fee collection and address the concerns regarding the 2% export infrastructure development cess. The Special Assistant instructed KPEZDMC to conduct a detailed review of this issue and provide recommendations.

Abdul Karim emphasized the need to address energy challenges, including the provision of affordable gas to industries, and pledged to raise these concerns with the relevant authorities. He also highlighted plans to work on railway trade transit and organize trade shows to boost economic activities in the province.

Regarding labor-related issues, the Special Assistant promised to arrange a meeting with the relevant authorities to find effective solutions.

Acknowledging the contributions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s industrialists, Abdul Karim praised their resilience in driving the region’s economic development despite challenges such as terrorism and location disadvantages. He described their perseverance as a form of “jihad” for the province’s progress.

He reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to promoting economic activities and assured industrialists of full cooperation. “The Chief Minister has directed Deputy Commissioners in each district to take responsibility for promoting economic activities, and the district administration must fulfill its role to support industrialists,” he stated.

Concluding his address, the Special Assistant emphasized the collective responsibility of residents to uplift the province and expressed gratitude for the contributions of the business community and investors. “As residents of this province, it is our duty to ensure its progress. No one will come from outside to do this for us,” he remarked.

The visit and meeting marked a significant step in fostering dialogue between the government and industrial stakeholders to resolve challenges and create an environment conducive to economic growth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
