Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Khyber Mail): An explosion at a police station in Swabi has resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with numerous others injured.

The second victim succumbed to their injuries at the Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC) on Friday.

District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi, Haroon Rasheed, reported that the blast occurred in the warehouse room on the first floor of the police station, where a significant amount of explosive material, recovered from terrorists over time, was stored.

Initial investigations suggest that the explosion was triggered by a short circuit, leading to multiple detonations.

Surveillance footage shows a massive flame erupting in the police station, followed by a powerful blast on Thursday night.

Rescue and firefighting teams promptly arrived at the scene, transferring the injured to BKMC, where an emergency was declared.

The explosion caused extensive damage to the building, which caught fire but was quickly extinguished by firefighting teams.

DPO Rasheed confirmed that 33 injured individuals were transported to various hospitals. Dr. Asif, the medical superintendent of the District Headquarters Hospital, stated that 26 injured persons were brought to the DHQ hospital, while BKMC spokesperson Raham Khan reported that eight injured individuals were receiving treatment at their facility.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has taken notice of the incident, instructing the inspector general and chief secretary to visit the Swabi police station immediately. He has also ordered a detailed report on the explosion and ensured that the injured receive timely medical assistance.
