Peshawar (Khyber Mail): : The Buildings Energy Research Center (BERC) at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar, has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). This partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to advance research and development in energy-efficient building designs.
The MoU, signed by Prof. Dr. Qaisar Ali, Vice Chancellor of UET Peshawar, and Prof. Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Chief Academic Officer/Provost of LUMS, is part of the project “Transformation of Construction Sector in Pakistan: A Pathway towards Clean, Green, and Sustainable Buildings,” supported by GIZ Pakistan and funded by BMZ.
This collaboration will focus on joint research projects, organizing conferences, providing training, and offering consultancy services. Both institutions will explore new research opportunities, work on pilot projects, and conduct studies to address energy demand management.
Dr. Naveed Ahmed, Director of BERC, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in tackling Pakistan’s energy challenges. Prof. Dr. Qaisar Ali emphasized the partnership’s role in enriching the academic environment and contributing to societal development, particularly in the energy sector. Dr. Tariq Jadoon noted that the MoU would enhance energy efficiency nationwide, improve the student experience, and drive cutting-edge research.
The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from both institutions, including Prof. Dr. Rizwan M. Gul, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering, and Dr. Khizar Azam Khan, Registrar of UET.
This partnership marks a significant step forward in promoting sustainable and energy-efficient building practices in Pakistan.
