PESHAWAR (Khyber Mail): The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar recently hosted its highly anticipated Mechanical Engineering Final Year Project Exhibition 2024, featuring 36 innovative projects by graduating students. The exhibition, held under the auspices of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, drew praise for its emphasis on practical applications and industry relevance.
Prof. Dr. Qaisar Ali, Vice Chancellor of UET Peshawar, inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest. He highlighted the importance of bridging academia, industry, and government for the commercialization of student projects, emphasizing their potential to benefit society.
The event, organized by Prof. Dr. Hamid Ullah, Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department, received support from the ASME & IMechE student societies and sponsorship from the Building Energy Research Center (BERC) at UET Peshawar.
During the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Ali proposed the formation of a core committee to foster stronger ties between students and industry, facilitating numerous opportunities for collaboration and professional growth.
Prof. Dr. Hamid Ullah commended the students for their exceptional efforts and highlighted the department’s recent accreditation by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), affirming its commitment to quality education and innovation. He acknowledged the industry’s active participation in the exhibition and thanked the organizing committee for their dedication.
Special recognition was awarded to outstanding projects, including:
- First Prize: “Design and Implementation of multi mode wheelchair interface for quadriplegic patients” supervised by Dr. Feroz Shah
- Second Prize: “Hybrid Car of 200cc IC Engine and Electric Motor” supervised by Engr. Adnan Rasheed
- Third Prize: “Mind-Controlled Bionic Arm” supervised by Engr. Nadeem Ur Rehman
Additional accolades included awards for Best Mechanical Design, Best Research, Best Mechanical Green Project, and Best Poster, recognizing excellence across various project categories.
Representatives from prominent industries such as Fuji Fertilizer Bin Qasim participated in the exhibition, underscoring its significance in fostering industry-academia collaboration.
The evaluation committee, comprising experts from academia and industry, played a pivotal role in assessing the projects’ technical merit and innovation. Prof. Dr. Hamid Ullah and Prof. Dr. Rizwan Gul concluded the event by presenting shields and cash prizes to the deserving winners.
The exhibition attracted a diverse audience including students, faculty members, and industry professionals, affirming UET Peshawar’s commitment to nurturing engineering talent and promoting impactful research and development in Pakistan.
