Karachi (Khyber Mail): As climate change continues to threaten vulnerable regions, Voices from the Roof of the World (VRW)—the award-winning documentary series—is set to unveil its fourth season in late 2025. The latest installment goes beyond the towering mountains of Central and South Asia, shifting focus to deltas, deserts, forests, and underground ecosystems—often overlooked in climate discussions.

According to UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), least developed countries contribute just 1.1% of global CO2 emissions, yet they account for 69% of climate-related disaster deaths over the past 50 years. With this reality in mind, VRW’s upcoming season will spotlight stories from Pakistan, India, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, highlighting the resilience, innovation, and cultural adaptations of communities battling environmental challenges.

The series, jointly produced by Aga Khan University (AKU) and the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, receives generous backing from the Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan Fund for the Environment, Ross Beaty, Sitka Foundation, and several philanthropic families. AKU President Sulaiman Shahabuddin expressed gratitude for the continued support, emphasizing that these stories aim to mobilize policymakers, business leaders, and the public toward meaningful action against climate change.

Multi-Emmy Award-winning Executive Producer Andrew Tkach highlighted VRW’s commitment to mentoring local filmmakers, including women storytellers, to ensure authentic perspectives on the climate crisis and its impact.

With 18 prestigious awards under its belt—including the John B. Oakes Award (2023) and Yugo BAFTA Student Film Award (2024)—VRW’s episodes have been showcased at over 50 international film festivals, airing on major outlets like Al Jazeera, ARTE, PBS Charlotte, and Sharjah TV.

As Season Four takes shape, VRW remains a powerful platform, amplifying voices from the frontlines of climate change, urging global audiences to act in the face of ecological transformation.
