Peshawar (Khyber Mail): The Paraplegic Center Peshawar (PCP) concluded a successful two-day training workshop aimed at equipping medical professionals from Azad Kashmir with advanced skills in the treatment of children affected by clubfoot. Dr. Syed Mohammad Ilyas, head of PCP, awarded certificates to participants in a ceremony marking the end of the workshop, encouraging them to provide comprehensive treatment to children at a newly established clubfoot clinic in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The workshop, conducted in collaboration with MiracleFeet and Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), focused on the “Ponseti” method, an effective treatment technique for clubfoot, a congenital condition that affects one or two out of every thousand live births. Senior physiotherapists and orthopedic surgeons from Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the training, which is part of a broader initiative to expand free access to clubfoot treatment across Pakistan.
The new clinic, located in Muzaffarabad at the Helping Hand Rehabilitation Center, provides free treatment and aims to restore mobility and improve the quality of life for children suffering from this condition. Since 2014, over 4,000 children have received free treatment for clubfoot at centers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and AJK, supported by PCP, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and MiracleFeet.
Dr. Khakula Imtiaz and Dr. Fahad Jamil, leading experts in physiotherapy and orthopedic surgery, conducted the hands-on training, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to provide high-quality care in their regions.
