PESHAWAR (Khyber Mail): On August 28, 2024, the Medical Professional Education Department (MPED), in collaboration with the Department of Endocrinology at Northwest General Hospital and Research Centre (NWGH&RC), hosted a successful one-day workshop titled “Innovative Approaches in Type II Diabetes: The Role of Empaphage L.” This event was tailored for postgraduate trainees and trainee medical officers (TMOs) specializing in Medicine and Allied fields.

The workshop featured keynote addresses by Prof. Dr. Arshad Hussain, a leading endocrinologist and diabetes management expert, and Dr. Nizam Uddin, Senior Registrar in the Department of Endocrinology. They provided the latest insights into managing Type II Diabetes, emphasizing the emerging role of Empaphage L, a novel therapeutic agent.

With over 537 million adults affected by diabetes globally, and Type II Diabetes accounting for approximately 90% of these cases, the workshop addressed the critical need for innovative treatment approaches. In Pakistan, over 33 million adults live with diabetes, placing the country among the top five globally for diabetes prevalence.

The interactive session included a dynamic Q&A segment, where TMOs engaged with the speakers to discuss clinical challenges and solutions in diabetes care. This exchange offered valuable learning opportunities and highlighted the importance of staying updated with advancements in diabetes management.

This workshop underscores MPED’s commitment to continuous professional development, ensuring that medical professionals are equipped with the latest knowledge and tools to provide optimal patient care. The department plans to host similar educational initiatives in the future.
