Islamabad (Khyber Mail): Pakistani students have made their mark on the global literary stage by excelling in the 9th Oxford Big Read (OBR) competition, organized by Oxford University Press (OUP). The prestigious international competition aims to inspire a lifelong love for reading among young learners worldwide.

The 2023 edition of the OBR, which began on December 7, attracted 1,142 students from across Pakistan. Participants competed in three age-specific categories: Level I (Grades 1–3), Level II (Grades 4–6), and Level III (Grades 7–9).

Two Pakistani students earned global recognition as runners-up:

  • Droshum Ali, a Grade 9 student from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Kharadar, Karachi, was named Global Runner-Up in Level III.
  • Anabia Imtanan, a Grade 6 student from Winnington School, Khewra, secured the Global Runner-Up position in Level II.

These talented students competed against peers from OUP branches in countries such as Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and India, showcasing Pakistan’s vibrant reading culture on an international platform.

OUP lauded the hard work and dedication of all participants, emphasizing the vital role played by schools, teachers, and parents in nurturing these young literary stars. The competition reflects Pakistan’s growing enthusiasm for reading and the potential of its youth to excel globally.
