Karachi, Pakistan (Agencies): During the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024 held in Karachi, Nigeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to purchase the Shahpar-2 attack drone from Pakistan. The agreement was one of 82 MoUs signed at the event, collectively worth $36 billion.

The Shahpar-2, developed by Global Industrial Defence Solutions (GIDS) of Pakistan, is a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV). It is designed for reconnaissance, surveillance, and ground attack missions. The drone can carry a variety of payloads, including laser-guided missiles, and is known for its high accuracy and cost-effectiveness.

This acquisition marks a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s defense capabilities and highlights the growing defense cooperation between Pakistan and Nigeria.
