Doha (Agencies): In a strategic move, Qatar has agreed to supply howitzers to Ukraine as part of a deal with the German government. Under this agreement, Qatar will transfer 12 of its 24 Panzerhaubitze 2000 (PzH 2000) self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine. In return, Qatar will receive advanced RCH 155 wheeled self-propelled artillery systems from Germany.
The PzH 2000 howitzers, known for their high rate of fire, precision targeting, and long-range capabilities, will be refurbished in Germany before being delivered to Ukraine. This transfer is expected to significantly enhance Ukraine’s artillery strength amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.
The deal also allows Qatar to modernize its artillery capabilities with the acquisition of the RCH 155 systems, which offer increased mobility and automation compared to their tracked predecessors.
This exchange is part of a broader “ring exchange” program, ensuring that donor countries can support Ukraine without depleting their own military inventories.
This development marks Qatar as the first Middle Eastern country to supply military equipment to Ukraine, highlighting the growing international support for Kyiv.
