Tehran (Agencies): Iran has unveiled several advanced air and missile defense systems in 2024, enhancing its already dense defense network in the Middle East. These developments come amid rising tensions and potential threats from Israel.
Here’s a look at the new systems:
- 9-Dey:
Tested in January, this short-range system targets low-altitude threats like cruise missiles and drones. It uses the Sevom Khordad launch vehicle and radar, with eight missiles capable of reaching speeds between Mach 3 and 4, and a range of up to 30 km.
- Arman anti-ballistic missile system:
Unveiled in February, this anti-ballistic missile system can tackle various threats, including ballistic and cruise missiles. It features a sophisticated radar with a 360-degree view, tracking up to 24 targets at ranges up to 200 km, and intercepting them within 150 km.
- Azarakhsh:
Also introduced in February, this modular short-range system is designed for low-altitude defense. It is light enough to be carried by small trucks and has a range of up to 10 km. The system includes a phased array radar and electro-optical tracking.
- Upgraded Bavar-373:
Revealed in April, this long-range system is an enhanced version of the Bavar-373, similar to Russia’s S-300. It features Sayyad-4B missiles with a range of 300-400 km and can engage targets at altitudes up to 120 km.
These systems demonstrate Iran’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities in response to regional threats.
