Paris (Agencies): A French intelligence officer was discovered dead in his vehicle at the Directorate General for Internal Security (DGSI) headquarters in Levallois-Perret, marking the third reported suicide among DGSI officers in five months.

French media reported that the officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, died from a gunshot wound to the head inflicted with his service weapon. Authorities believe it was a suicide, though investigations by the local prosecutor’s office and DGSI’s internal inspection unit are ongoing.

A farewell letter was reportedly found at his home, prompting his wife to alert authorities. DGSI personnel later discovered his body inside a service vehicle in the agency’s underground garage.

The incident follows two previous suicides within the DGSI, with one officer allegedly taking his life inside the agency’s basement in January and another fatally shooting himself at home just days earlier.

French officials have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the case. However, according to Actu17, this latest incident brings the total suicide count among France’s national police force to 10 since the beginning of the year.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, as concerns rise over mental health challenges among intelligence and security personnel.
