Tel Aviv (Agencies): Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper has reported a series of high-profile resignations from the Israeli army following the 7 October 2023 Hamas cross-border attack.
The most prominent figures to resign include:
- Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi

- Commander of the Southern Region, Yaron Finkelman

- Commander of the Gaza Division, Avi Rosenfeld

- Head of the Military Intelligence Division, Aharon Haliva

- Commander of Intelligence Unit 8200, Yossi Sariel

- Commander of the Northern Brigade in the Gaza Strip, Haim Cohen

The newspaper highlighted that Halevi took over as Chief of Staff during a turbulent period, appointed by a transitional government. His tenure began amidst clashes with the political echelon and the judicial overhaul controversy that deeply divided Israeli society.
While the army initially struggled to confront the Hamas surprise attack, the report claims that under Halevi’s leadership, the army recovered and achieved success after more than a year of continuous war in seven different arenas, including Gaza and Lebanon.
