Peshawar – Pakistan (Khyber Mail): The U.S. Department of State has reiterated its Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province, including the former Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA), citing increased terrorist activity as reported in public media.
Active terrorist and insurgent groups continue to pose serious security threats, routinely carrying out attacks on civilians, NGOs, government offices, and security personnel. Assassination and kidnapping attempts remain a major concern, with polio eradication teams also being targeted.
The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan require armed escorts and armored vehicles for official and personal travel in certain areas, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of security restrictions. The U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar does not provide consular services, and U.S. citizens in need of assistance are advised to seek support from the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad or consulates in Karachi and Lahore.
Authorities urge travelers to:
- Avoid visiting KP Province entirely.
- Exercise extreme caution and leave the area if found in unsafe surroundings.
- Monitor local media for security updates.
- Review personal security plans and cooperate with authorities.
