DUBAI (Agencies): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) aims to install over 500 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by the end of 2025 to support clean transportation and reduce carbon emissions, Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, announced on Monday. Speaking on the sidelines of the World Government Summit preliminary day, Al Olama highlighted the country’s commitment to expanding its EV infrastructure.

Al Olama noted that the ministry, which owns 50 percent of the UAE’s EV infrastructure, installed more than 100 EV chargers across the country in 2024 and is rapidly expanding the network to meet growing EV demand. He emphasized that the initiative follows an integrated approach in collaboration with the private sector and local authorities to ensure a robust infrastructure that supports the widespread adoption of EVs. This effort aligns with the UAE’s national sustainability goals.

In addition to the EV charging stations, Al Olama announced that the ministry aims to increase the country’s renewable energy capacity to over 14 gigawatts by 2030. This commitment to clean energy development is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices.
