London/Karachi, July 3, 2025 (Agencies): The United Kingdom has officially transferred three refurbished 2400TD(M)-class hovercraft, formerly in service with the Royal Marines, to the Pakistan Navy under a government-to-government agreement, enhancing bilateral defense cooperation and boosting Pakistan’s littoral capabilities.

Originally decommissioned in 2021, the hovercraft were identified by the UK’s Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) as well-suited for operations in Pakistan’s maritime environment. The vessels were overhauled and prepared for transfer by UK-based Griffon Marine Support under a 2022 contract.

Each hovercraft weighs 10.6 tonnes, measures 13.4 meters in length, and is powered by Deutz V8 water-cooled diesel engines. They can reach speeds of 35 knots and travel up to 300 nautical miles at 25 knots — ideal for coastal patrols, amphibious landings, and humanitarian operations in shallow waters.

“This transfer supports the Pakistan Navy’s ability to conduct rapid-response missions and underlines our shared commitment to global maritime security,” said Commodore Richard Whalley, DE&S Head of Exports and Sales.

The Pakistan Navy welcomed the acquisition as a step forward in operational readiness and regional maritime cooperation. The vessels are expected to play a vital role in Pakistan’s disaster response and littoral security missions.

If you’d like a breakdown of the hovercraft’s tech specs or background on past UK–Pakistan naval collaborations, I’d be happy to put it together.
