Kyiv, Ukraine (Agencies): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially confirmed that China has imposed restrictions on the supply of drones to Ukraine.

This development comes as a significant challenge for Kyiv, which has heavily relied on drones for reconnaissance and combat operations amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

China’s new export controls, which came into effect on September 1, 2024, require Chinese producers to apply for export licenses and provide end-user certificates for drones and related equipment.

These restrictions are aimed at preventing the use of Chinese drones for military purposes.

The impact of these restrictions is already being felt, as Ukraine struggles to source drones and drone parts from Chinese suppliers.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine is aware of the challenges posed by these restrictions and is exploring alternative solutions to mitigate the impact.

China’s decision to impose these controls is seen as part of its broader strategy to maintain a neutral stance in the Russia-Ukraine conflict while safeguarding its national security and interests.

The restrictions have also raised concerns about the potential support for Russia, as Chinese companies have continued to supply drones and other critical components to Moscow.
