Amsterdam (Agencies): In a tense turn of events, several people are being held hostage in a cafe in the eastern Dutch town of Ede. The incident has prompted local authorities to take swift action, evacuating nearby homes to ensure public safety.

The cafe at the center of the crisis is Cafe Petticoat in Ede.

An unknown man, reportedly armed with weapons and explosives, entered the premises early in the morning, threatening to blow himself up.

Approximately 150 homes in the vicinity have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Heavily armed police units have cordoned off the area and are negotiating with the hostage-taker. At this time, there is no indication of a terrorist motive.

Authorities urge residents to stay away from the scene and remain indoors.
