KYIV (Agencies): In the ongoing Ukraine war, a significant incident has unfolded. Ukrainian intelligence has reported that a Russian patrol ship, the Sergei Kotov, was hit and sunk in a sea drone attack. The attack, which allegedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, resulted in seven fatalities and six injuries.

The Ukrainian military intelligence service has stated that the Black Sea fleet ship suffered damage to its stern, right, and left sides. While the Kremlin has yet to comment on this incident, some Russian bloggers have confirmed the sinking of the Sergei Kotov. However, the extent of the damage to the ship has not been independently verified by the media.

In a post on Telegram, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) revealed that 52 crew members were evacuated from the Sergei Kotov. This ship is one of four patrol ships completed for the Russian Navy’s Project 22160 and had previously been attacked by Ukraine in September of the previous year.

Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk confirmed that the ship is now on the seabed and suggested that a helicopter may have been on board. According to Ukrainian sources, the Sergei Kotov played a significant role in the attack on Snake Island on the first day of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, alongside the Moskva cruiser, which was sunk by Ukraine later that year.
