WASHINGTON (Agencies): David DePape, aged 44, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for breaking into the home of top US legislator Nancy Pelosi and attacking her husband with a hammer. DePape was found guilty of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on an official’s family member.
During trial testimony, DePape admitted to breaking into Pelosi’s San Francisco home with the intention of holding the then-Speaker of the US House of Representatives hostage. He also confessed to bludgeoning Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer. Footage of the attack was made public last January.
Paul Pelosi suffered head wounds, including a skull fracture, which required surgical intervention. DePape received concurrent sentences of 20 and 30 years, with credit for the 18 months he has already spent in custody .
