KARACHI (Khyber Mail): The Aga Khan University (AKU) and the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Quality Assurance Agency have successfully concluded a three-day workshop aimed at improving the quality of higher education in Pakistan. This event, held from May 6 to 8, 2024, at AKU’s campus in Karachi, marks the second such collaboration following the inaugural event’s success in 2021.

The workshop brought together distinguished leaders, scholars, and stakeholders from various public and private universities in Sindh and Balochistan. The participants engaged in substantive discussions and deliberations aimed at enhancing educational standards in Pakistan’s higher education system.

AKU President Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin, Vice Provost Professor Tashmin Khamis, and Director Quality Enhancement Cell Mr. Faisal Notta highlighted the importance of rebuilding educational structures to better equip students for success. Dr. Shahabuddin also expressed pride in AKU’s achievements in quality benchmarks, including two UNESCO-supported Zairi awards for teaching and research.

The workshop focused on promoting a culture of quality at institutional and program levels and sharing best practices through case studies. One such case study was AKU, which has shown continuous improvement in its programs. Professor Khamis emphasized the importance of establishing Teaching and Learning Support Units at universities to support faculty development and provide a robust student learning experience.

Mr. Nasir Shah, Director General, Quality Assurance Agency, HEC, commended the Network of Quality, Teaching and Learning’s (QTL_net) dedication to quality assurance. He acknowledged the impact of QTL_net’s work in upholding and continuously improving AKU’s academic excellence.

As Pakistan strives for educational excellence, AKU and the HEC remain committed to supporting educators and institutions in their efforts to provide high-quality learning experiences to students, as well as in their collective pursuit of academic distinction and scholarly excellence.
