PESHAWAR (Khyber Mail): The Department of International Relations at the University of Peshawar hosted the grand launch of its departmental publications, The Mosaic Journal and Newsletter. The event took place at the University Guest House.

The launch was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Member of National Assembly, Shehryar Afridi, Vice Chancellor of University of Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Jahanzeb, Dean of Social Sciences Prof. Jauhar Ali, and Dean of Humanities, Dr. Qazi Naeem. Decades-old alumni of Team Mosaic, the publishing body of the Journal and Newsletter, were also present.

The event was hosted by Nabeeha Fajar Javed, a student at the Department of International Relations. The audience comprised students and teaching faculty of the Department of International Relations.

The event was made possible by generous sponsorships from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development Project (KITE), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority, FES Higher Education Consultants, and Initiative for Development & Empowerment Axis (IDEA). The Community Service Program (CSP) at the University of Peshawar and DOSTI Welfare Foundation also collaborated for the event.

The event began with the recitation of Quranic verses, followed by an ice-breaking session where the audience was asked interesting questions about the 30-year-long history of The Mosaic. The new cabinet of the International Relations Student Association (IRSA) was introduced, and their oath ceremony was administered by Dr. Sami Raza.

The Editor of The Mosaic, Ms. Huma Fazal, was called on stage for her remarks. She appreciated the collaborative spirit and hard work of her team, the guidance and mentorship of her Editor-In-Chief, Prof. Dr. Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi, and the significance of the launch in her journey as an Editor.

Members of Team Mosaic were given the opportunity to voice their experiences as part of the team. They shared the lessons they learned along the way in a heartwarming manner. The Head of the Department and Editor-In-Chief, Prof. Dr. Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi, gave his remarks about The Mosaic. He reminisced about the old times of The Mosaic before its revival after a 16-year-long hiatus in 2020 and applauded the students’ enthusiasm and creativity to keep this student tradition alive and successful.

The Vice Chancellor shared his remarks on this academic endeavor and expressed his concern for urgent improvements in the academic infrastructure. The Deans also shared their insights regarding the publications and appreciated the collective efforts of the students. Member of the National Assembly Shehriyar Afridi encouraged students to continue participating in extracurricular activities for personal growth and development. He even suggested setting up financial support to such student-led extracurricular activities to keep them alive and well-functioning.

After a heartfelt thanks to the sponsors, shields were distributed among members of Team Mosaic, followed by culinary delights for the evening, concluding the event.
