ISLAMABAD (Khyber Mail): The interior ministry has approved the nationwide deployment of the Pakistan Army and Rangers during the month of Muharram.

This decision comes in response to requests from all provincial governments, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The deployment will be carried out under Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, to enhance security during Muharram. The exact number of troops, deployment dates, and areas will be determined by provincial authorities in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

The de-requisitioning of this deployment will be decided subsequently through mutual consultation.

Ashura (Muharram 10) will be observed on July 17 (Wednesday), and Muharram is a month of mourning, particularly observed by Shia Muslims worldwide.
