Islamabad (Agencies): Speaker of the National Assembly, Raja Pervez Ashraf, paid tribute to the people of Turkiye for their unmatched sacrifices on July 15, 2016, to preserve democracy.

Speaking at the event commemorating the 7th anniversary of Democracy and National Unity Day at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad, he highlighted the resolve and bravery displayed by the people of Turkiye in safeguarding democracy, emphasizing that the will of the people ultimately determines the fate of a nation.

Raja Pervez Ashraf emphasized the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkiye, rooted in shared traditions and values.

The Speaker expressed pride in Pakistan’s unwavering support for their Turkish brethren, especially during difficult times and natural disasters, highlighting the mutual assistance extended between the two nations. He also honored the sacrifice of over 250 martyrs who laid down their lives for the revival of democracy in Turkiye. The Speaker mentioned that both houses of the Pakistani Parliament passed unanimous resolutions expressing solidarity with Turkiye and its people.

Raja Pervez Ashraf expressed confidence in Turkiye’s continued development under the leadership of President Tayyip Erdogan. He emphasized the significance of enhancing parliamentary contacts between Pakistan and Turkiye for regional prosperity.

Turkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Mehmet Picaci, expressed gratitude to the Speaker for his presence at the event. He emphasized the close relations between Pakistan and Turkiye, rooted in centuries-old values and traditions. He stated that the day served as a reminder to the world of the sacrifices made by the Turkish people to safeguard democracy in their country.
